Biological Essay Topics - What You Need to Know About Her Royal Gift

Biological Essay Topics - What You Need to Know About Her Royal GiftA research scientist by training, Barbara Henry has been writing about biology since 1997. That's when she published 'The Embryo: A Biography of the Female Body' in Tilt, a magazine for young scientists. The essay topics she discusses in her new book, 'The Embryo: Inside the Mind of the Female Body,' include: brain differences, baby girls, hormone production, and the importance of music.Henry takes us on a virtual tour of her subject matter in The Embryo: A Biography of the Female Body. For those who are just discovering her work, this book is an accessible introduction to the world of bioscience, natural science, and animal behavior. In one chapter, for example, Henry brings up how a particular form of hormone production in fish seems to be different from other mammals. Scientists have found that fish have what seems to be a very high level of a certain hormone called androgens. A hormone that may give rise to all so rts of different physical traits that seem to be 'male' in nature. Not only that, but the levels of androgens in fish seem to be relatively uniform throughout the species. So while other fish species produce different levels of androgens, the species that Henry focuses on are not only the most sensitive to the hormone, but they also seem to have a very uniform and effective way of producing androgens. Is this something new or unique to fish? She uses the development of scientific technology in the early days of microbiology to illustrate how science could advance in leaps and bounds. Henry goes back to the time of the discovery of the structure of DNA and all of the discovery that led to the actual understanding of the genetic code in the human body. It was only after much debate that was met with heated political battles that women were finally granted the right to participate in the field of biology. One interesting tidbit in this chapter is that the human corpus luteum gland, which is responsible for producing the egg needed to make an egg in the first place, has a very different shape than the one it actually has in the human body. Androgen production appears to be a great deal more complicated in the fish than it is in the human body. So when we are talking about fetal development, it seems that the human body is at a distinct advantage. The human anatomy seems to be less confusing than other bodies, due to the apparent simplicity of its forms and structures. It seems to have less free-swimming protozoans floating around.Biology is not always pleasant, but there is something to be said for the simplicity of the human anatomy. It is easier to understand and to utilize. We could all do with a little less confusion, in general.
