Writing an Effective College Application Essay
Writing an Effective College Application EssayWhen you first start your college search, you may wonder what the best way to go about writing an effective college application essay is. After all, the college admissions officer has already read your entire application. What is the point of having to write a formal essay that will take away from their time reviewing your credentials? You will be shocked at how much time they spend looking over your essays and you need to get them to pick up on your right answers. The best way to write an essay that will provide a solid base for your college application is to include a personal statement. Most college admissions officers will skip your personal statement in favor of the essay that is written by the professor or by the Admissions Counselor. You need to keep in mind that the admission officer is going to decide whether or not you are worthy of an interview. They are not there to evaluate the school or the professor. So if you give them a goo d reason for wanting to interview you, then your essay is going to help you. You will be able to state your case and make the admissions officer want to talk to you. When writing your personal statement, be sure to do so in the present tense. The admissions officer is going to read through your college applications a few months down the road and it will be important for you to be able to relate the information that you have provided to them today. If you are giving information that is too far back, then your essay will seem like you are still filling out forms. In other words, you will not seem real to the admissions officer.Keep in mind that the admissions officer wants to have the ability to interview you and do so with only five minutes or less. If you cannot come up with the time to answer a couple of questions, then you should at least answer them briefly. It may sound stupid tosome, but you want to come across as real and interesting. If you have recently moved, it may be worth your while to write a short summary of your past activities to the admissions officer. You will want to be able to tell them what you are up to these days. Have you started a new hobby or started taking up another vocation? This is the type of information that will help the admissions officer determine if you are a good fit for their school and what kind of support they can offer you if you are accepted. You will also want to include your contact information in your essay and this is especially important if you plan on contacting the admissions officer after you have been accepted. If you get an interview, they will want to call you to inform you that you have been accepted. Having this information in your essay will help you prepare yourself for the call.Make sure that you write your essays in a way that will make the admissions officer want to interview you. Your essay is your chance to shine. You need to make sure that it does this as best as possible. Don't be afraid to express y ourself and speak in your own voice.
